Baur/Fine (Season 3, Episode 2)

PREMISE

ARRR! 1000 miles from the Caribbean live the pirates of Albany Oregon. Tori (AKA Mad Sally) and John (Ol' Chumbucket) Bauer live their life on the philosophy of pirattitude. "Pirattitude means I live my life on a whim. We behave however we want to behave." Explains Tori. Their house is disorganized and their dog Shiloh is infested with fleas. Their kids Kate (16) Millie (13) and Max (8) have no chores, are allowed to use swear words and are encouraged to be who they want to be. John gave up his cubicle job to write pirate books, and the Baur's formed a local pirate society. However, their job doesn't bring regular paychecks so they can't always guarantee the bills will be paid.

In California, Lisa Fine is a professional organizer, who likes to keep her own home clean and organized. Everything in their house has a bin and a label, and everything is done on a schedule. Daughter Ashley (13) has been cheerleading since she was 5 and is a miniature version of her mother. She also has everything labeled in her room and likes to have everything organized. Son Brandon is 12 and plays football. Lisa believes appearances are important and represent who you are inside and out.

UPDATE

Ashley did 2 AMA's on reddit. Her last name is now King, as she got married.

"We were organized, but not like they depicted. Our play room always had Barbies or Legos strewn about for days at a time before we had to tidy up. The "common" areas tended to be clean because of my mom, but we usually had homework on the table and some clothes on the floor in our rooms. We were definitely cleaner than the average family. It was pretty strict, but not crazy strict. I'm now married and have lived on my own for years and my husband and I are...basically slobs. But when my mom visits, she isn't obnoxious about it." The show introduced Ashley that she wanted a label maker for her birthday. She said jokingly that when she has her own place she will want a label maker but they turned it into a birthday thing. She now says that would be too much work and she and her husband are slobs. Tori was genuinely weird and irresponsible, even off camera. Her dog had fleas and her house was disgusting and smelled. Lisa at one point stayed at a hotel because of the smells and fleas. The moms don't write the rules, the producers do. They wanted Lisa to write a rule that the dog had to be in a tiny cage. Lisa refused and they almost cancelled the show. The shaving, label making and time out bin was all the producers.

Ashley cringes looking back on the show, saying she was a "snotty 13 year old". If they did the show now, it would be so boring. " You're a pirate? Okay, good for you, I'm going to go watch Netflix." She wrote "I remember crying off camera and having one of the producers hug me and we'd joke around and she'd help me through it. Then she would use what we talked about later to get me upset again on camera. But I honestly didn't realize what she was doing until we saw it all edited together." Ashley said in a YouTube comment on her family's episode it didn't take her two hours to get ready in the morning, she just thought it sounded cool saying that. Here is a picture of Ashley uploaded to Facebook on May 22, 2022.

After the show, Lisa and Craig divorced due to infidelity, though it had nothing to do with the swap. As of 2017, Ashley is in Sacramento going to school for nursing and working as a nanny. Lisa was diagnosed with MS, and has some nerve issues that prevent her from doing long organizing jobs. Lisa is also a Las Vegas shooting survivor and shared her story. Lisa said she grew up without a father and wanted her kids to have a father figure.

Tori Baur currently lives in New Orleans, Louisiana and is a middle school teacher. Her Facebook profile lists her job as pre teen wrangler at T.H. Harris Middle School.

International Talk Like a Pirate Day is an actual holiday created by John Baur AKA Ol' Chumbucket and Mark Summers, AKA Cap'n Slappy. It is observed on September 19.
