Bailey/Downs (Season 2, Episode 6)

PREMISE

In Texas, Paula and Rodney Downs have 7 children: Samantha (16), Amanda (15) Brandy (13), Rodney Jr (12) Wyatt (5) and Melanie (3) and Jessica (2). The entire family sleeps in one bedroom in their 3 bedroom midsized house. However, they only stay in their house 2 nights a week, and spend the rest of the week in an RV. Overprotective Paula homeschools the kids to protect them from society. Paula and Rodney never let the children out of their sight, even Samantha and Amanda, who are not allowed to date or go to a public place by themselves. The family write down the neighbor's license plates and do background checks. Paula is afraid of germs and hand sanitizes everything, even shopping carts. Paula does everything for her family, cooking, cleaning, laundry and putting out Rodney's clothes.

Roz Bailey is one of the most successful realtors in North Carolina. Her career often comes before her family, so she hardly sees her kids Helen (15) and Nicholas (7). Roz is constantly on her cell phone answering work-related calls. Husband Chad does the cooking and cleaning, and takes care of Nicholas. As a result of Roz's career, the family have a lot of stuff, including 2 houses, a boat, 2 pick up trucks, and a lot of clothes and games. However, the family would prefer Roz spend more time with them over the material things.

UPDATE

Rodney wrote on his Facebook that Paula abandoned the children.

"Four years I have been battling to get this done. As of yesterday I am finally divorced and have custody of my four younger children. Paula Higdon I have no I'll feelings towards you but it's time you stepped up and and tried to visit with your children after all four years is a long time and you are missing out on so much. Want to thank my four oldest for being there and helping out when your brothers and sisters need y'all"

I believe the entire show was scripted. Anyway, in the comments, Chris Anderson accused Rodney of being racist. Kelvin Murray Sr, who is black, responded:

"First of all Chris Anderson, I have been knowing that family for over 11 years I've eating at their house. I know all the kids,I've been knowing Rodney Jr since he was a little boy he call's me his other Daddy, for you to say that he's a racist it offends me.

I don't post a lot of stuff on Facebook but I am going to stand up for what's right and I know for a fact that family is not racist I love that family with all my heart.

And I'm going to be there for them through thick and thin.

Whatever comment was made to your friend I'm sorry, but I can't see my son Rodney Jr posting anything like that, you ever thought that his page was hacked."

Amanda Steed replied to Kelvin she misses him, and Kelvin replied he misses them too.

Amanda Steed and Samantha Downs-Stogsdill are both married and each have two children.

Roz is still a real estate agent and wrote on her blog "My thoughts......Yes, it was definetly an experience I will never forget. All in all, I think it helped me grow as a person and a mother. I am still a realtor but have enlisted the help I so desperately needed. I now have time for my family and my clients."

Her daughter, Helen Jessica Layton is a business analyst at Wells Fargo and has a son.
